I recently found a FUNKY “fan” page and was appalled by the level of mindless bile being spewed at Tom.

For close to a century the assumption has been that readers of newspaper strips are intellectually a notch higher than readers of comic books. Being revealed as a strip fan was not shorthand for “moron” in the same way such a revelation about comic fans so often was.

Reading those FUNKY comments I saw no evidence of higher intelligence, but I sure did see some deeper darkness than I’ve seen even in the worst comic fans.
