And I didn't even look at the credits! I'm going to miss Funky, but it's nice that it got a true finale!

He gives you credit on his website, too

How far in advance did you do the strips?
Thanks

February! That's advanced planning. I've always been under the impression that comic strip creators worked super close to the deadlines.

It's nice to see your art in whatever form it shows up.

Thanks again.

Was this the long ago mentioned “afternoon project”?

Such a big part of the newspaper reading experience for those of us who grew up in Northeast Ohio. Elyria's Chronicle-Telegram ran Funky and Crankshaft daily, and our other local papers, The Morning Journal, the Akron Beacon-Journal, the Plain Dealer--Tom Batiuk's presence was everywhere. Sad to see Funky's story come to an end, but grateful that we (and Tom!) got to enjoy it for such a long time.

I included a couple of his characters (drawn in my own style) on a Spider-Man splash page, and Tom contacted me about purchasing the original. Not long after, we met in person at MidOhioCon.

Found a website dedicated to FUNKY—tho based on the “reviews” of the last week that dedication took on much the same form as Jack the Ripper’s dedication to prostitutes.

One clown even went so far as to suggest those last dailies were something I’d done on my own, independent of FUNKY. Tom had seen these, and passed them on to the syndicate as what he’d planned.

And, of course, there was the one that said the coda indicates that Tom didn’t care anymore—and probably never did.

Oh, and there was one reference to these dailies being why Tom was “fired”.

I've never read this strip before the last week of strips -
I read those because they were posted in a Facebook group.

I've never read this strip but I thought it was such a
touching ending to a strip. A perfect ending. A link from
the first to the last episode.

Not sure how anyone could read those strips and not be
touched.
