At a loss for words. I don't think there's any really to properly express this. Life is just so unfair. He's the biggest talent in the world, and as kind and as gracious a human being as ever there could be. I hope he gets as much time as possible in the company of his loved ones.

Count me among those both stunned and saddened by this news.

One of the first comics I read and read and read as a child was LOGAN'S RUN #2.   I was 5 or 6 and the TV Series was on and I just loved it.

(it would be 20 years before I ever got the other books in the series)

But that LR#2 was just amazing.

A few years later, I figured out the names of the writers and artists were in the front pages of these "comic books" - and low and behold, I had been a fan of this "George Perez" guy and hadn't even known it.  (there was some John Byrne guy in there, too)

SO, George Perez has quite literally been with me my entire comic book life.

I met George at San Diego Comic Con about 10 years ago.  I'd brought with me my original beat to shit copy of Logan's Run #2 -- and he signed it.  He told me he loved signing the personal copies, the comics people had read.  We chatted.  It was awesome.  He turned to a panel in the LR#2 comic and told me it was one of his favorite he'd drawn, the way it captured some movement, etc.  He was such a nice guy - genuinely happy to meet all his fans.

I know a lot of people deal with illness and death daily and no one deserves it - but there's just a sense of cruelty from the universe when it hits certain people.

I love you, George Perez !     Wishing you strength and peace.

"Heartbreaking news.  I've been a fan of his work for nearly as long as I've been a fan of comics in general.  From buying his first Avengers work off the spinner rack in the 70s, to New Teen Titans and Wonder Woman in the 80s, and then back again on Avengers in the 90s plus everything in-between.  His work has been a near constant for many thousands of fans.

More than that, however, is everything I've ever heard about him has been nothing but glowing.  Unfortunately, I've never had the pleasure of meeting him but stories abound about his kindness, enthusiasm and work ethic.  That update from his FB page exudes a generosity of spirit and a love for his family and fans that is inspirational especially in light of everything he's dealing with right now.

My hope for him is as smooth and painless a transition as possible, surrounded by the love of his family and the continued appreciation of all those, like me, who have enjoyed his work for so long."

Beautifully said, Matt Reed, and I couldn't agree more.

Extremely sorry to hear this news. George is one of the top talents in the industry and one of the most humble. Like all of us, I'm a huge fan - now I'm going to go and re-read and celebrate his work!

Heartbreaking.

George is my #1A, and I am so glad I had the pleasure of
meeting him a few times. He was great - to me and my kids.

He's still here, but this is the first one to really hit
me. He's one of my comic book Beatles: John, George,
Frank, and Walter.

Awful news.

And add me to the "fuck cancer" list. I've known way too many people who have died from it.

Pancreatic cancer.

I had a writing partner and we worked together for a few years and became friends. One day he told me he had been to the doctor and had been diagnosed with full on pancreatic cancer. The doctors had given him a life expectancy of 18 months - two years. He died just two months later.

My point is, we should all make sure to let George know how much his work has meant to us now, while he is still here. No need to put it off!

This is very sad news. George's message was so personal and heartfelt.
