I still find it somewhat mind-blowing to have had opportunities to meet or see in person so many comic book writers and artists whose work I grew up enjoying, just to say thanks or to get a beloved item signed.

The primary ones that I've missed out on include John Buscema, Jack Kirby and a real near miss with Kurt Schaffenberger who passed just before attending a local con.

Griffith is also terrific in what I believe was his last performance, as a cranky, wealthy diner patron in WAITRESS.

Robert Pirsig - he only wrote two books, but one of them was ZEN AND THE ART OF MOTORCYCLE MAINTENENCE, which has continued to have an enormous impact on me since I first read it in the early 1990's. He passed away a few months ago.

The only missed opportunity that springs to mind was Marc Lenard of Star Trek fame. There used to be a small sci fi oriented convention that was held annually in my city and one year they decided to bring in an acting guest (they previously focused on sci fi literature and only brought in authors and the like). I wanted to meet Mr. Lenard, but I couldn't stand to snooty behaviour that the people at that convention usually displayed as they had that common looking down their noses mentality if you weren't one of the self professed afficianados like themselves. As a result, I didn't attend the convention that year and he passed on shortly thereafter.

I guess the lesson to be learned from a missed opportunity is to jump on the chance when you can as you never know when someone will be gone forever.

Wallace S. - Yes, "A Face in the Crowd." Stupid silver age memory.

It is a magnificent piece of public drama, but it is not a funny movie, nor an easy movie. It is nothing like Sheriff Andy Taylor... but I enjoyed the heck out of it. If you want to see Griffith's range... that's the one.

Patrick McGoohan. Mind you, he was not a man who suffered fools gladly so I would have needed to get over any nerves and got straight to the point with anything I wanted to say or to ask him

Agreed, to which I'd add Jack Kirby and Christopher Hitchens.
