"My current career is a shadow of its former self -- brought down almost entirely by lies."
You're a non-conformist, something what the remnants of this hobby and industry cannot tolerate.

The character looked very different on the cover. It was more like Ryan Choi + 20 years.

I'm still reeling from Ms. Simone's comment in the other thread about how some comics "professionals" behaved during JB's ACTION run...

BTW, for the inevitable procession of morons who will say "but JB, it
wouldn't have turned out this way if you just kept quiet," may I
pre-emptively say : F-U and the horse you rode in on!

It's a fact...I don't think I've EVER heard of so many first-day sellouts on any book I've worked on. It was just a constant thing all day yesterday.
While it's always great to hear that there's interest in a book, it makes me sad if people who want a copy can't get one.

One cannot fly in the face of reality, Ronald. To this extent, the sad boys on the internet and the self-fulfilling prophets in the shops have won. My current career is a shadow of its former self -- brought down almost entirely by lies.

JB, c'mon, you may not be the mega sales behemoth you were at your peak, but you're definitely still a viable artist. If you were still able to command the industry like you did in the 80's, people would be suspecting that you could walk on water, too. Frank Miller still sells big numbers , but that's because his stuff is so rare, but you've drawn two books a month for 30 years, so there's a never ending supply of Byrne stuff that's been available, and that probably affects the "demand".
Don't the trade paperbacks of your collected work sell well?

Retailers don't order JB's books, because 'they don't sell'. Maybe marvel and DC could front the money to send Joey Retailer to a community college business class?

I picked it up and enjoyed it. It's much better than The Flash relaunch. As for JB's career....well, I hate to say it and it's not like he really needs any advice from someone like me....but, you might have reached that stage in your career when you need to put yourself out as an "art robot" for some other high-profile creators for a while. Unlike other fine artists who've been swamped when the style of the moment changed to something radically different from what they did, your work still stands up perfectly well.

Well, I deliberately over ordered on the Atom, as frankly, I thought to myself "Fuck it.. let's show the man some solid support" contrary to stories I hear on this board. Plus my instincts told me it's about the right time for a JB renaissance, and the man is drawing as well if not better than any point in his career.
It's a little early to give much feedback (weather's been a bit miserable today, and comic readers can be fragile creatures!) but so far it's 90% positive:
Don't give up JB, you grumpy old comics master you!
