I’ve been seeing quotes this morning saying Nikki Haley with be the first South Carolinian to be elected President since George Washington. Now I’m not any kind of Washington scholar to be sure, but I can’t think of any ties he may have had with South Carolina. He was Virginia thru-and-thru. Right? Am I missing something?

I looked it up via the Mount Vernon website, he was born in Popes Creek, Westmorland county VA.

Henry Middleton and Henry Laurens, both from South Carolina, were Presidents of the Continental Congress.
