My favorite character hasn’t changed, but I have grown to appreciate
Kitty’s contribution to the team a lot more.

My favourite characters were always Scott & Jean.  I moved away from Marvel X-Men continuity as the characters became less and less 'themselves' - and, accordingly, less and less real to me.
My favourite of the 'new' X-Men was always Kitty Pryde - even if she did turn into a super-genius ninja-badass.  I enjoyed her friendship with Illyana (the teenage sorceress) and Lockheed (her 'pet' dragon) - but it all started to go downhill after the glory years of Alan Davis and Excalibur.

Elsewhen has reminded me why I liked/loved the characters in the first place and has made them that much more real again. It has revalidated what originally attracted me to those characters in the first place and added a degree of depth that was missing previously.  In fact, it has reminded me why I enjoyed comics so much.

Mine was/is Colossus also.
I didn't get to spend much time with Sprite, but was drawn to her quickly as we were about the same age at that time.

Colossus was a bit too “engineered” for me to warm to him entirely. Cool looking, and fun to draw, but I could never figure out how a biological mutation could produce the articulation in his skin.

Of course, if I’d been told he simply turned to smooth “living metal” I would have no problem.

What was Walt Simonson's reaction?

**

Here was some indication of his feelings:

That’s Walter having fun, not a comment on the series.

I assume you mean the horizontal cross segments on his limbs? Yeah, if anything they should have been depicted along the lines of sinews in muscles, but that probably would have provided a creepier look. I believe Alex Ross' early paintings of the X-Men used to leave out the cross banding.

I’ve said so since before this was even a series, but hot damn! I’d love
to see Walt ink this.

As noted here on the forum before, you and Walt were in talks with
Marvel about doing a Thor book recently with him writing and you
pencilling. Was Walt considering inking that project?

Forgot the issue ended yesterday. The Walt ink job helps though!

Two part question (not multiple choice).

(1) Do you JB enjoy inking?
(2) Do you think Mr. Simonson does?

In response to Wallace's question: my favorite character was Havoc...but I'll admit it was the cool power and costume. He never had enough time in the limelight to "fully develop" in either the original series, Uncanny, or Hidden Years (IMO). Before him, it had been Cyclops and for the most part that continued through JB's original run. I loved him as a thinker and a leader.

After reading ELSEWHEN, I have to admit it may now be Jean. In JB's hands, she's a peach...also it's really nice she's not dead anymore. :)

(To be precise, the real Jean: not that soap opera starlet that everyone claims is her and that's always posing for the camera over at Marvel.)
