John - When you write, do you roughly plot a year in advance and then write issue to issue?

Yes.

I finally had the chance to go back and look at all of the pages in order in the other thread. Really cool! Best new comic that I've read in a while. Hope you ink it if it goes forward.

Here's a question or two:
how much thought to you give to the passage of time and seasons when plotting the stories?

And is any season "harder" to draw / write than others?  (looking back over some of your "winter scenes" though, I have to declare you the Master of Winter Nights.  Such texture and contrast!)

Traditionally, I draw my stories to correspond approximately to the season in which they will be published.

My winters, incidentally, are inspired by the British cartoonist Giles, who did the Best. Snow. Ever.

Good reason to keep the primary story to 2-3 issues!

Not a consideration. After all, these stories survive long past their publication dates.

Such a fun and insightful tour of your studio. You come across as such a genuine and humble guy - I thought you weren't made out to be that way!

What a great interview JB. A real treat to let us see your collected art and items. Your wow is to be standing in front of those pieces, my wow is just being able to see you take us on the tour. Thanks.

John, do you mind if I ask...

1) How many issues of ELSEWHEN have you penciled at this point?

2) Have you drawn any covers yet? I'm curious if you'll be hiding issue numbers like you did on HIDDEN YEARS

Thanks

Couple of questions:

Are we going to see lots of new characters in Elsewhen?

And (and you don't have to be specific unless you want us to explode with excitement) is there any particular new character you're really excited about?
