After struggling for virtually my entire run, trying to find my Nightcrawler hook, it was with the Wendigo issue that I finally got it. I decided to play him as basically Daffy Duck.

Microbrains can now feel free to misunderstand and freak out.

Yet, like Kitty, it remains intangible.

Well, there’s a kiss...

That reminds me something. At the end of issue 143 Wolverine tries to kill Nightcrawler because he gives a kiss on Mariko's cheek.

I was pretty shocked when I read this (as they seemed to forge really solid bonds during their "Wendigo hunt") but I liked the way Wolverine left the room saying he was unable to change.

That powerful scene was curiously ignored after you left the book.

As I’ve said many a time over the years, my take on Wolverine is that he’s just a hair’s breadth away from snapping and slaughtering everyone around him.

Well, isn't that because, as I understand your version of his origin to be, he's Sabretooth's son, with regeneration for everything but his bones, was trapped in an avalanche with all his bones broken, surviving as a meaty blob until being found by Dept H and then having his skin held open as his bones were replaced and claws and claw mechanisms were dropped in before being trained as a killer by Dept H.....

I imagine it'd be pretty hard to be a stable person after that

That sounds vaguely familiar -- tho it would have been an "origin" for the extreme measures of replacing* all his bones, not of his personality.

* Yes, replacing.

I'm sure just having Sabretooth as a dad would be enough to give him a hair trigger.  Logan joining and hanging out with the X-men would be like an abused feral cat that's being introduced to the other house pets
