The Catholic Church doesn’t want to let it go. Or fully embrace it. Go fig.

I'll admit, after watching an IN SEARCH of... episode as a teenager, I was momentarily distracted by the "blood stains in the wrists instead of palms" diversion.I came to my senses soon afterwards.

************************************************************ Ah yes, but one of those is the original Earth-2 head, which was believed lost in the first Crisis, only to resurface a few years ago, when it actually turned out to be it's own evil twin.
Or something.

Of course, if we DO have the Shroud of Turan, we'll be able to try to interpret Jesus' DNA, and find out if we have any matches out there. "Whaddaya know. We finally found out where Jimmy Hoffa is!"

You can tell it's the Earth-Two John the Baptist because he's grey at the temples.

Aside from the danger of encouraging idolatry, which the Bible and the Ten Commandments steadfastly oppose (e.g. Leviticus 26:1), what do these (obviously fake) objects offer the faithful? Reassurance? If you're faithful, by definition not only do you not need physical proof to believe, it actually undermines the concept of "faith".
Objectively speaking, there's no conclusive independent evidence of the existence of Jesus Christ (e.g. see Richard Carrier's On the Historicity of Jesus. More and more, he seems to be a completely manufactured myth, not even an exaggerated priest or amalgam of several wise men... an out and out fabrication in the mold of ancient Roman & Greek gods & heroes, like Hercules/Heracles.
At best, all of these "holy objects" are the ancient equivalent of fake product reviews on modern websites. They're certainly interesting in their own right, but I imagine a future where people will be fascinated by them purely as evidence of the lengths to which primitive man went to perpetuate his superstitions.

If one had asked me years ago, I would have told people science has proven it's nothing more than a clever Medieval forgery. But with additional information that has come to light now I am not so sure. And I am open to the possibility that it may be authentic.

My favorite relic is the foreskins of Jesus. He left a lot of them here, from my understanding.

Consider that.

The first is a major Roman census*, and the second is a Roman "tradition". No trace of either in contemporary records. It makes for difficulty when attempting to construct a biography of a real person. __________________________ * There WAS a census, but at the wrong time, and nowhere near as "comprehensive" as the one described in the NT.
