Many moons ago I had a girlfriend who was a huge Kitty Pryde fan. She was a few years younger than me, and so had been close to Kitty's age when the character was introduced. (We first met some dozen or so years later.)

As she sang the praises of the character, I felt compelled to admit Kitty had very quickly "evolved" beyond the character I had intended her to be, thanks to what I considered Chris' mishandling (one of the reasons I left the book) and other writers picking up from that.

Fortunately, I don't think my confession did TOO much damage to our relationship.

What is amazing to me, or maybe not given the sad state of affairs, is this is the best Marvel comic in decades - literally.

••

I don't really know how fair that assessment is, tho I do appreciate it.

Marvel has moved too far away from what I think of as its core--and this applies to the fans, too. If Marvel had, indeed, published ELSEWHEN, I seriously doubt it would have been the chart-buster many seem to think.

I still read comics regularly and give Marvel (and DC) comics a shot when a
new creative team comes on, especially for characters I love. I'm almost
always disappointed (it doesn't help that every other issue is part of some
"EVENT!!!!!"). But I do have to recommend the Marvel comics currently being
written by Chip Zdarsky. They are closest, in spirit, to the comics that I adored
in the 80s.

I subscribe to Marvel Unlimited so read a few current comics.

This is coherent, clean art that is dynamic but only as the story requires, no gymnastics for gymnastics sake, characters on model (Marvel does seem to be trying to get back to this to be fair to them), characters in character, respectful. I could go on.

It is the best thing being produced @ the moment - not because I’m a gushing fanboy, but because of those reasons mentioned above

"Only... that's not what the X-Men would do, is it?"

Not as a team, but Nightcrawler might beat a retreat for a most subtle approach if he were outnumbered and outgunned.. On the other hand - no, the X-Men aren't in the habit of running and hiding, are they?

Fantastic. Cannot wait to see what Kitty does next.

Now, as some of you may have noticed I asked Jeff to recalibrate the Forum so each page is twelve pages long, instead of 25. This seems to have helped with the loading speed on the ELSEWHEN thread.

Report your mileage!

Missed it by a day - but Uncanny X-Men #137 was published on June 17, 1980!
