He-Ro was originally going to be He-Man's ancestor in a prehistoric version of the franchise populated with dinosaurs. That version only recently got an action figure in one of the revival toy lines.
He-Ro was also going to be the name of He-Man's adopted son in a proposed follow-up series that also went unproduced.
I'd say that neither de-uniques the character of He-Man any more than Jor-El, "Krypton's First Superman," did Superman or Korak did Tarzan.
Now Faker on the other hand... :-)

Ah, I see. I couldn't remember much about He-Ro other than seeing a toy for him. Thanks for the info, Brian!
Faker? I'd rather have an evil doppelganger than a spin-off/clone any day of the week. ;-)

"The New Luthor and New Brainiac?!" Sic 'im, Robbie! Get him! Get him!
Honestly, though, Eric, I can see those two not working for people. It was earlier attempt by Marv Wolfman to "Marvelize" DC so that Marvel fans would stop making fun. This shame and self-hatred ladled into DC's psyche by Wolfman and others continues to grow and fester even today as the company continues to drag concepts and characters they consider quaint out of storage and chop and channel them into something they hope Marvel fans will find Marvel-esque enough to purchase.
As a kid, I found the Punisher completely bizarre. I couldn't believe that a character that violent was appearing in a Spider-Man comic. I remember taking the issue of Marvel Tales (could it have actually been SpM #129?) into the kitchen to talk to my Mom about it, and later discussing it with my Dad. Dad read the Mack Bolan series of "Executioner" novels and recognized the Punisher for the complete rip-off of that character that he is. Years later, when Marvel came out with an Executioner magazine, I wondered how they were going to differentiate the two. Just draw him differently?

A long list, when I think of it. Usually it's the new characters replacing old and established ones. Like Miles Morales Spider-Man or Jamie Reyes Blue Beetle. Or, possibly the worst one, Simon Baz, the gun-wielding (!) Green Lantern. I could go on...

I see a parallel with wrestling at times. When they have de-uniqued a concept or character, it just dilutes everything.

Baz doesn't wield a gun now, does he? Anyway, Green Lanterns are their own category. There were already over 1800(?) of them when Hal first got his ring.

Thanks, Robbie (and Nathan). I have only ready two or three stories featuring the Metal Men, and one of them was JB's tale. I like that one, but not the others. Any recommendations for specific issues?

If you have to read any Metal Men comics, the issues Walter Simonson drew at least look pretty!

Gambit,Red Hulk and all the variants (except She-Hulk!!!) All of the Spider-man variants Sentry Modern Day Norman Osborn Bishop Rogue was a problem until I read her recently. It may have been Claremont's twang!
edited to fix "twang!" boy that "t" is important!

Deadpool absolutely nauseates me. I don't care if everyone says the movie is great, I won't watch it.
