John, I've finally figured out why Elsewhen has struck such a chord with me!  Aside from being enthralled with your talent since I was 12, aside from seeing your seamless continuation of the depiction of these  characters, aside from organic flow of your combined artwork and storytelling, Elsewhen delivered on a childhood dream of seeing this alternate timeline where YOU were in charge and not with an army of hands in your pot.  Reading early interviews from the late 70's and early 80's as a kid, I learned of the original plans you had laid out for the stories past 137 and wished and wished they could have somehow been completed.  When Rachel popped up in "Days", it only solidified that there were a set of stories that were "missed".  The last piece was a sentence by you in the "Phoenix the Untold Story" back up interviews in 1983 where you jokingly declared that the completed original version of 137 should be the first issue in an alternate version of X-Men stories.  So, once again, thank you for making this particular dream come true.

Well, almost, but I think you'll like what you see.

I mean, would like it if it was real.

JB, what else is involved in getting a green light to
begin this series on Marvel's end? It seems like things
work faster at IDW.

Looking through all of the pages again, it's fantastic to see you revisit these characters so seamlessly after all these years (am I that old???).*  And it is particularly great to see your take on Cyclops again.  To me, he's always been the X-Men -- the core of the book -- although I fully recognize it's been a looong time since we've seen that guy.

(*  My first issue of the X-Men was # 129, which came as the middle comic in a 3-pack.  I was thrilled to discover the art was by the same guy who did Marvel Team Up # 61 and Avengers # 164, my first issue of those titles.  And I was hooked.  It's been quite a few years of entertainment, JB.  Thank you.)

So --- I recall from Phoenix Untold Story there was an unused splash page with something about "if Jean had lived, X-Men 138 would have begun with THIS splash page instead of....(showed grim funeral page)"

Shouldn't this series begin with THAT splash page with Scott and Jean out taking a stroll...?

(and if this was already covered, I'm sorry -- sort of playing catch-up of 52 pages)

This issue takes place several weeks, or even months after that splash.

Also in theory at that time Cyclops leaves the X-Men to be with Jean. I supose he must have reconsidered his decision and rejoins the X-Men perhaps because Jean feels better or something happens that makes the X-Men call Cyclops for help.
All this can be expalined in the alternate Annual #4 ;)

Some of you are really determined not to GET it, aren't you? This, alone, is perhaps the greatest barrier against this ever becoming a real series.
