Or... what if we went back a bit further and wrapped up "Days of Future Past" as intended, with a clear win for the X-Men instead of a big question mark hanging over them?

•••

Granted my memory is beginning to resemble Swiss cheese, but wasn't DAYS OF FUTURE PAST after the death of Phoenix?

As long as we're playing this game, let me point out that in a scenario like X-MEN ELSEWHEN, I would not use any of the post-Phoenix storylines Chris and I were planning, and that would necessitate having the Shi'ar perform some OTHER proceedure on Jean. Perhaps even introducing the Jean/Phoenix schism at that point. (Phoenix being literally sucked out of Jean could certainly make for some drama!)

Dammit, I need to stop thinking about this!!!

I'm having one of those days, JB. Yes, DOFP was indeed post-Phoenix, my apologies. The coffee simply has not kicked in yet. :)

Yes... you begin to see the challenge. Not unlike SUPERMAN II not being able to use Marlon Brando.

Speaking of inks...

With access to the Gallery restored, I was yesterday perusing some of the pencil scans, notably DOOM PATROL.

So, uhm, what were people complaining about? Forgive a towering immodesty, but that's some of the best drawings I've ever produced!!

DOOM PATROL was beautiful. I have absolutely no idea what anyone faulted in the book--the story was very strong, the key characters were all there (and recognizable as themselves), the art was top notch... so what was the problem? I still don't get it, and I consider myself a longtime DP fan.

I have the feeling too many fans default to the unthinking criticism Emperor Joseph II made of Mozart's work in AMADEUS: "Too many notes."

I mean... really, if there IS a legitimate criticism, why didn't we hear it?

I hope it wasn't the wrong thing to do, speculating on a possible storyline. My apologies.

I wonder what a battle would be like between the X-Men and a liberated Phoenix entity. I know we got something completely different with the Dark Phoenix saga and at the time I was blown away. But I know now what could have been and even my "arm chair wannabe author" could have done better with a reoccurring villian from a turned hero than the reoccurring Phoenix rehash that literally drove me away from the X-Men. There were so many possibilities since the can of worms was already opened making the X-Men the occassional interstellar team. It was a bit out of character for them, but I sure liked it. Well, right up until the Brood. =/

On the subject of inking, I have always liked the Frazetta take on pterodactyl wings.

It's not speculating on a possible storyline. It's SUGGESTING a possible storyline. Which has all kinds of legal ramifications.
