----over the years reading comics i have concluded that Art is responsible for all that Image style that boomed in the early 90s....

••

Or, as someone once said, "It's too bad Art is such a flake. If he wasn't, we wouldn't have needed Todd MacFarlane."

JB, how hard is it to learn to draw the Thing?

(I'm think it must not at all be be easy because if Neal Adams couldn't really pull it off...!)

The only gripe I have about that image, which I think is pretty terrific, is that he put the Thing in boxer-briefs instead of trunks. Why go to the trouble of an homage and then do the costume wrong?

Drawing the Thing is a lot like drawing Spider-Man. It's time-consuming, and the hardest part to learn is knowing when to stop!

It took me quite a while to figure it out. In fact, I'd go so far as to say I am still tweaking!

Kirby occasionally put "boxers" on his various trunks wearing character, including his monsters. Some artists kind of locked on that look, and it's their go-to configuration. Some even add the boxer effect to characters like Green Lantern, who's never had anything like that.

I guess there's room for benefit of the doubt.  Maybe the commissioner wanted it that way.  But "your" Thing didn't have them on on that cover so I'm content that my angry, anal-retentive fanboy attitude about it is warranted.  ;)

Arthur's version of the Thing is off-model in a lot of ways, but that's not one of them. Sometimes it helps to give a sense of volume to Ben's chest by indicating pectoral muscles.*

And now I have to go through my long-boxes to find exactly where and when you did this so I can officially revoke my criticism of Adams. See you sometime next year!

Save some time. Look in the Commissions Gallery.

Good heavens, both of those women appear able to feed the entire infant population in Vermont! I mean, I'm appreciative of the female form, but that's a bit much even for me...
