Hurry on the day that nobody has to be singled out (by society or themselves) and we really and truly can be equal.

***

That is a beautiful and profound comment.

I've been chatting privately (via social media) with a transwoman. We got chatting about wrestling and music, two passions of mine. We started chatting around January/February. Recently, she said to me, "All these months have chatting - and you've spoken to me based entirely on our shared interests as people. You've not once asked me about my trans status or anything else." She appeared pleased by that.

And that's how it goes. I got chatting to her about wrestling and Pink Floyd. I see her as a good social media friend who I can have discussions with about two great subjects that are of interest to me. I don't view her through the prism of her gender, sexuality, anything. She's a person, first and foremost.

That`s the problem Robbie, most people want to be known for their personality, likes and interests, their sexuality shouldn`t be an issue. But when people label themselves as something different, they make an issue of it and draw attention.
Like you I a variety of friends, gay, lesbian, black,Asian,Musilm,Christian none of them make an issue of it,it`s just what they are,our friendship and social interaction is based on our shared likes and interests.

I live in one of the Whitest states in the country, and yet my friends, acquaintances and neighbors look like somebody knocked over a box of crayons. And that's not just for the colors. Religion, gender, politics, economics. The range is wide indeed.

Ok, being transgender or intersexed is a medical condition. I had to go through a series of medical, and psychological tests to be diagnosed as transgender, this included a scan of my brain to confirm the diagnosis. I agree the acronym is getting a bit long.

Let's dump the acronym and simply use Variants. Easy to remember, easy to pronounce, covers all the bases.

Won't there be some people who then insist on identifying some as non-
mutant variants?

There is a great deal of confusion in the realization that one might be Gay. Our society puts a lot of pressure on people to be "normal". Those of us who have not experienced this cannot really understand it.

But "questioning" is a legitimate condition, and deserving of support.

----

...OK I may have sounded a bit flip there. Didn't mean to. I myself went through the questioning phase -- identifying as straight to identifying as bi. And of course trying to figure out one's own feelings is legitimate. It's just the only letter in the ever-increasing alphabet soup that I think of as a genuine stage. I don't think one can be questioning forever. All the other letters, you just are or you aren't.

I have never been a big fan of the acronym thing, but I think it jumped the shark after LGB.

I happen to be gay. But I'm OK if you just call me MIke. No additional letters necessary.
