As I recall, Illyana's mutant ability was the ability to summon and direct "stepping circles" - directable space warps that simulated teleporting.••• Portable holes!!

That was illyana's mutant ability. She was also a demon sorceress raised in Limbo by Belasco and a magic-wielding, old lady Storm.

Magik might have been the first X-Men-connected character with a needlessly convoluted background. Then came Rachel Summers, the Goblin Queen (Madelyne Pryor), Cable, Nate Grey (X-Man), Dark Beast...and that's all before the 21st century began...
I never got the appeal. It's one among several reasons that I stopped reading Marvel's mutant titles.

Do those exist in the Marvel Universe? I figure they originated in 'Loony Toons'.;-)

Yeah, they put an anti-mutant collar on Kurt Wagner... and he did not turn into a white skinned, five fingered, tailless man with blue eyes. How's THAT work? ************************************************************ ********************** Why would it do that? I assume they canceled out mutant abilities not physiology.

First appearance of Logan without his mask just after Len left the series. Drawn by Cockrum.

And the hardcore fans like it to be as complicated as possible, to keep out the riff-raff. Which works fine for the Speculators, since they don't actually read the books anyway!

Mike Norris: "Why would it do that? I assume they canceled out mutant abilities not physiology." (regarding a mutant cancelling power collar and Nightcrawler's appearance.)
Why WOULDN'T it? The way a person looks is their genetic heritage. If mutations were cancelled out, why wouldn't that cancel out any changes to their appearance? With nothing to go on besides that some mutants look physically different strictly due to their mutations, wouldn't those be affected if the effects of mutation were cancelled?
Of course we have no way to be sure... it's about an entirely speculative piece of fiction. But I remember that when Ben Grimm's powers were removed, he stopped being orange and rocky (even if not reverting to Ben Grimm), and that once, when Beast's powers were turned off, he reverted to a non-hirsuite form. I believe both of those were Claremont stories... so why wouldn't Nightcrawler be changed as well?
