Starfire has had at least 3 or 4 different costumes (though one was pretty similar to the original, and may have just come about due to an artist being lazy), but she looks generic on that cover. Like someone cosplaying as her....

Yes, but WHY? Unless I'm misremembering, there were only three characters who regularly had different costumes*: the Wasp, Iron Man (not all that regularly, either), and Robby Reed. There was an element of recognizability, in that I KNEW that everyone would look the same issue to issue. When Wonder Girl, Hakweye or Green Arrow had a different look, it was kind of a big deal.
These days? I can't imagine Iron Man is drawn the same from issue to issue, and it seems every artist gets to redesign heroes at the drop of a cape.
*Yes, characters like Lois Lane, Iris Allen, Pepper Potts, et. al. had different clothing - but they weren't wearing a uniform. And even then, Elastic Lad always looked the same, and even Rick Jones kind of had the same clothes in every appearance.
ITEM: It seems that drawing Starfire anymore requires three things; gold skin, dark orange hair, and enormous breasts. And maybe some purple aspect to her costume. Then again, what female hero WASN'T subjected to "having work done." I'm rather amazed that DC never teamed up Starfire and Power Girl in a battle of the boobies.
That's part of the charm of this commission, and really every one of Mr. Byrne's pieces. You know who you're looking at, and you know that if they're humanoid, they look like REAL people. Of varying physical types, but REAL. (Mr. Perez manages that too. And Curt Swan... ah, Curt Swan. Drew everybody looking like the world outside your window.)
It doesn't have to be photo-realistic... but perhaps lifelike could be sufficient.

The whole piece is amazing, but the dynamic between Cyclops and Havoc is my favorite part.

AWESOME commission piece, JB!!! Love this era of Teen Titans AND X-Men and I agree with the comments made about Starfire.
As I've often said on the forum, I always wished for a proper X-MEN/NEW TEEN TITANS crossover co-plotted and drawn by JB and George Pérez.
(Similar to what you both did with Action Comics #600)

But what is there? Even if I was interested in working for Marvel and/or DC
again, what would I do?

How about John Byrne Presents… The Marvel Universe?
I'd much rather see you continue to do great things at IDW, but if you
did do more work for Marvel, a title like this might give you enough
flexibility/variety to keep you interested.
