Matt H: "I'm not prepared to say it's a scam just yet, but the supposed upsides
might be that he gets sympathy votes, and that he could claim to beat the
virus while suggesting it wasn't so bad, after all.

As I noted previously, what's sad is that it is plausible Trump would make it up."

****

It is indeed sad. The administration's history of lying makes this a possibility
we are all forced to consider. I believe his virus is real and more serious than
they are saying, but my theory is also grounded in doubting this
administration's ability to tell the truth.

It's why I can't tolerate lies - it gives you no reference point for reality.

Too many people who have been around the president recently are getting it.  Including the head of the Judiciary Committee.  That puts a crimp in their rush to get Barrett confirmed.

Trump put on Marine One heading to Walter Reed.

Folks, you don’t get on Marine One Going to Walter Reed for a slight fever and fatigue....

David, there's footage of him walking on and off Marine One, and he doesn't appear weakened or staggering as he walks, either.  So he's obviously not seriously ill or he'd be in a wheelchair or on a stretcher.  That could certainly change, but at this point there isn't a good reason to believe he's significantly more ill than has been reported.  Given his age and physical condition, it's not unreasonable that they'd want to just pre-emptively hospitalize him in case he suddenly takes a turn for the worse.

I'd tough out a walk for optics in that position. Any maniac would!

Point is, if you're seriously ill from covid you can't "tough out" a walk, certainly not without it being apparent in your gait.  His stride is not slow, he doesn't stagger or appear weak, and there's no one near him to make sure he doesn't fall over.

Dude was diagnosed yesterday, he's not in "falling over" territory.

But looking at how they are handling the situation and some reports from White House correspondents he must have some serious symptoms.

He could do himself harm if he insists on excess treatments; especially not fully tested ones. Not a great thing always to be someone whom nobody says no to.

I was responding to David's suggestion that his condition must be serious because of the fact he was being sent to Walter Reed.  The video shows that his condition did not appear serious at the time he was taken to the hospital; he was able to walk to and from Marine One with a normal stride and no apparent weakness or difficulty.  If he was experiencing extremely serious symptoms of the sort that normally warrant hospitalization they either would not allow him to ambulate by himself, or if they did his condition would be apparent in how he walked.

I'm not saying he won't develop serious symptoms, I'm saying we haven't seen any evidence that he "must have some serious symptoms" yet.  I don't think that the mere fact that he's been hospitalized is proof positive that he has serious symptoms and they are lying about it.  I understand why people are naturally suspicious of any information that comes from the administration, but suspicion and speculation do not equal fact, particularly when there is evidence (the video of him walking without difficulty) that contradicts the speculation.

I'm saying that walking doesn't mean anything when you've been just diagnosed with this virus. The initial symptoms are high fever and difficulty to breathe (both reported in Trump by White House correspondents).

I honestly don't think the administration is "lying about it". He has the virus, and he's manifested symptoms so they decided to send him to Walter Reed. Nothing more, nothing less.

But seeing him walking without "falling over" doesn't contradict anything. That's all.

When Johnson got it, he stayed @ home & everyone kept saying day
10 of infection is the critical day. That’s when it seems you either
improve or deteriorate. Johnson went to hospital on day 10 & by all
accounts it got very serious.

We have a ways to go before Trump gets to day 10, depending on
when he actually got infected

**********************

If he has a fever by now, the earliest he was infected was probably Sunday or Monday.
