Isn't #58 the Hate-Monger?

As many of you know, I was forced to include the Beyonder in the Tommy Hanson story. That was not my original intent. The Doctor character, who features so prominently in the opening pages, was created to play the part co-opted by the Beyonder.

Given what I considered the serious nature of my story, I had asked to be excused from using the Beyonder in that issue, and my request had been granted. Then, after I had begun work on my story, permission was revoked, and I was told the Beyonder MUST appear.

I consoled myself that it was a backhanded compliment; someone had decided the story was too important for the Beyonder not to play a central role.

Once I offered the then-editor of the FF a redo of the pertinent pages, restored to my original intent, free of charge. I'd hoped it could be included in any future reprints. Nothing came of it.

Oh...
Dare we hope for something like this some day, vis-a-vis "Hero"?
(I know it's been some 30 years, but hope springs eternal and all that)

Now that's a story I'd love to see!

Cory, you may be right about the Hate-Monger. I did go looking for the character, but I was looking for someone with a higher forehead, less of a tousled hair style, and the white fur collar and elasticized waistband on his jacket. The more typical leather jacket on this character and his harassing an old man just said "Georgie" to me...

The idea that this is the Hate-Monger does make better "story sense" in this composition since it is the Black Panther who looks to be interceding as H-M is attempting to influence Skip Collins, a man with the ability to do considerable damage should he get in the sort of bad mood the Hate-Monger is known to inspire...

Of course, JB's Hate-Monger is a shape-changer, so they could ALL be the Hate-Monger...

Josh, Marc, Nathan, thank you!

Thanks for the confirmation, Nathan. It was all going so well for the first 57 characters, and then... :-)

I'm still a bit thrown, to this day, every time that I hear
an artist that is overly critical of their work. I
experience it fairly regularly amongst artists that I know.
What is also typical, is that those who could use some
significant additional training (anatomy, perspective,
story telling, etc) tend to be the ones that don't give
voice to those self-critical thoughts... if they even have
them. Certainly makes one wonder how much cause and effect
is going on there.

I also wanted to give my praise, as Ian Carroll mentioned, to how nostalgic this makes me for the OHOTMUDE covers!

Everyone, keep headin' to the right!!

I'm crying with happiness. Love this drawing. Thanks, John, for making that effort.
