It gets better! Venom is in this one!

(Sarcasm, of course.)

Which part is the sarcasm? Cuz sticking Venom in
it, I would not put past 'em for a heartbeat.

…a Spider-Man/Red Sonja mini…

•••

"Geez! Look at this! Claremont and Byrne only did
one issue with this! I'll bet we could milk it for
at least four!"

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
That's one of the many things wrong with Marvel today, really; If they're not crapping over character's histories and other creators' work (ie, JMS' Spider-Man crap), then they're dragging out stuff that could be done in one or two issues into 4 to 6 issues (ie, much of Bendis' work) or writing characters completely out of character (most of Civil War, especially anything written by Jenkins).

I wish that "Marvel today" was completely accurate, but unfortunately this is nothing new. Recall my cover for MARVEL PREVIEW, in which I had She-Hulk scoffing at the current regeim at Marvel getting a Summer Crossover Event out of "Atlantis Attacks" -- something Stan and Jack had handeled (better) in a single FF Annual (the first).

Some, I suppose, might even suggest this goes all the way back to the "expanded" version of the FF/Spider-Man tussle that appeared in the first Spider-Man Annual.

sorry for the sidetrack here.

I find it funny that "Marvel" "despises" Byrne, yet they keep dragging out stuff he's worked on in one form or fashion.

oh, and the cover in question:

The PNG version is even more fun!

JB, what do imagine Sonja's bikini is made out of? Coins? It hasn't looked
like chainmail for a very long time...

I wonder, can She-Hulk tan, and if so, what would it look like?

Red Sonja's costume looks like scale-mail to me.

To JB:

Your cover was prophetic. I well remember FF Annual #1, and can call up
specific panels in my mind (okay, it helps that I was a kid when it first
came out). I'd mercifully forgotten all about "Atlantis Attacks" until your
mention of it. Like just about every other "event" running through
multiple issues, it was a waste of time and money. "Crisis" and "Secret
Wars" have much to answer for. I think it would be nice if every writer
and artist working in the field today had to spend a couple of years doing
six or eight page, complete in one issue stories. You know, the kind
Kubert, Eisner, Kirby, the EC boys and so forth cut their teeth on.

I agree, Robert!

Plus, it would be nice to be able to plot a year or so ahead, as Chris and I used to on X-MEN, or I used to on FF or ALPHA FLIGHT, without fearing that editorial will hand down a crossover "event" and gut my stories (as happened on BLOOD OF THE DEMON).
