I was promised he’d be in his own separate reality, but as soon as I started work Dick Giordano informed me Cap had to be in the Justice League. So I walked away.

My biggest character flaw: too trusting.

I never considered it before, but JB’s She Hulk managed to achieve the
same balance of fun and adventure that made Captain Marvel’s classic
stories so special.

I believe in an Earth F with all the Fawcett characters but I'm not really sure if they ever had that at DC? Maybe if I had that treasury-sized meeting between them and Superman I'd know for sure? Was something like Earth F an actual policy? Did the Freedom Fighters, Kid Eternity and the Blackhawks all come from an Earth Q for Quality?

Shazam! was one of the first superhero comics I bought for myself when it was by C.C. Beck (and Kurt Schaffenberger was 'thee' Supergirl artist to me). I enjoy the Don Newton Marvel Family from the later '70s-'80s, he obviously had love for them, and yet was doing a more realistic looking version (although you could say Mac Raboy did that way back). I wished Alan Weiss had done more than that one issue of Shazam! (and an Amazing World Of DC fanzine cover) though.

They called it "Earth-S," but yeah, Captain Marvel and Family had their own Earth Pre-Crisis.

Putting Captain Marvel on the same Earth as Superman never made sense.  It diminished both of them.  Previously, anytime the Flash or Wonder Woman faced a worldwide threat, not calling Superman had to be explained away with "He's on a mission in space!"  Now what?  "Superman's on a mission in space!  And so is Captain Marvel!  And Mary Marvel!  And Captain Marvel Jr.!  And J'onn J'onzz!  And Dr. Fate!  And the Spectre!  And all the Earth-bound Green Lanterns!"

JB - say the Captain Marvel book had happened, would that have delayed your return to Marvel with AWC/She-Hulk/Namor?

Then I’m doubly glad it happened. Or didn’t, I guess.

I always liked the Willie Fawcett/Captain Thunder version.  I wish DC had mined that more when they were making books I enjoyed reading.
