JB: Aside from Captain America, if a publisher approached you to re-invigorate a Golden Age hero, is there one that you think would have been adaptable to a new audience?
If so, would you elaborate on what you think makes that character able to transcend their era?
(any character, publisher, country is fair game)
Thanks in advance

How far do you want to stretch the Golden Age? I’ve always had a fondness for the Fly, but I guess he’s more Silver. Hmmm…… Black Cat?

I was thinking 30s up to 1950. Which I know is before your time reading, but wondered if they ever sparked your interest.
I liked the costume for Black Terror, but never understood why the hero was a "terror"

A lot of fans--who were inclined to worry about such things--considered the Silver Age as beginning in 1956, with the first appearance of the Barry Allen Flash.(Of course, that created a whole brouhaha about when the Silver Age adventures of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman started, since they had unbroken runs up through '56.) All this was complicated by the first appearance of J'Onn J'Onzz, in 1955. Was he the real first Silver Age superhero--or the last of the Golden Age?

While I get the year cut offs for historical or collecting categorization. Robbie Patterson posed the idea of a "personal Golden age" on the form a few years back. i.e. when did comic hit that magic spot for each of us. From an age perspective, 80s for me. But as I discovered the 60s comics (chef's kiss, my favorite). However, only now looked a bit at the 30-50s. developing an appreciation for me. Though my wallet is not so inclined.
And someone introduced me this summer to Hampson's Dan Dare. Now I can't stop looking for examples of it. Love the art and coloring. So vivid

Captain Comet was introduced in that 'awkward' year 1951, shortly after 'All-Star Comics' dropped the JSA(becoming 'All-Star Western'), which left Superman, the Dynamic Duo, Wonder Woman, and 'Captain New Guy' as DC's only superheroes at that point.Like his namesake, Captain Comet was seen only briefly, and was long gone by 1955, when J'onn showed up.

JB, did you ever think about working on things like DOC SAVAGE or THE SHADOW?

I would LOVE to see JB's take on The Fly. I have a weird fascination for the character. Weird because I had all of one issue as a kid - I just love that costume!

...
If we're talking about the Black Cat from Harvey in the '40s and '50s, I know Lee Elias did some of those when she got her own title. I was given a free reprint issue some years ago, pretty good.
