Hi JB,

The description on this page says "buildings in the final panel are mechanical".

This predates your CG.

What technique did you employ?

Thanks,

Jason

That part, of course, is drawn the old fashioned way!

I loved seeing little artistic tricks like this. It inspired me as a kid (and continues to still do so today). I experimented in some pieces I created using photos as a result of JB doing this sort of thing. It harkened back in some ways to Jack Kirby using photo collages in his works.

John, did you ever own a light table?

Jack did collages as a hobby and some made it into comics. I encourage everyone to seek out the full size, colour scans of the original collages. They provide a different perspective of Jack's art when it is not done for pay.

I have a large light table with my artograph mounted on it. Both unused for years, now. Maybe I should sell ‘em.

Of course, for thirty years Ive been talking about selling my old drawing board, the one from which sprang all but the first of my X-Men issues, and a whole lot that came after. Never seem to get around to it.

That page is from my second ever issue of Fantastic Four.  I knew just from looking at the first panel.  I've still got my well worn copy stashed away in my collection.

At the risk of sounding mercenary, I can't
even begin to imagine the price that would
fetch!

Thanks JB. Now I'm going to take a look for other places you did that. I always liked how that looks on your pages.
