Chris was a slave to his own success. Years ago I read an autobiography by Alec Guiness, in which he mentioned that if someone complimented him on some bit of stagecraft he’d steer away from it in future. He didn’t want the audience aware of what he was doing. Chris is the opposite. A compliment—or even a complaint—will cause him to lean into it.

From interviews he's given, Chris wanted Cyclops to have a happy retirement.

My opinion on the Claremont/Cyclops is based on what I saw on paper. He retired Cyclops 2 times, had him lose to a depowered Storm, had him act rather strangely. Also, via the Classic X-Men stories, established a connection between Wolverine and Jean, undermining the most important aspect of Cyclops's. And, as Jim Burdo says, he wanted to retire Cyclops. I interpret it as wanting Cyclops out of his way...

I always loved Angel's Yellow/Red costume . Would have made a great team-up with Kid Flash.

Angel must be in 4-5 pages of the story. What is your point exactly?

Thanks, all! I think Angel is one of those characters who's waiting for the right writer to find the right story for him. The new GIANT SIZE X-MEN is an Angel feature, so maybe others are thinking along these lines too. I wonder if it is as JB suggested, that going to the Champions with Iceman made Angel a second class citizen in the superhero community. Well, if Iceman can bounce back, so can Angel. Thanks again, everyone!

As for Cyclops during Mr. Claremont's run--It felt as though he wanted to move Scott on in life, with a wife and child, but something (maybe the fans?) kept pulling him back into the X-Men. Who knows? Maybe he would have had Scott come back around to the team--it seems pretty likely--but maybe not as well. Or he'd have been "the cavalry," showing up when things were at their worst.

I always liked that Warren had real wings, as opposed to fake-wing heroes, such as Hawkman and Falcon. Then they gave him metal wings, and that made him less special, instead of more.
He should have an interesting personality and lots of story potential with his upper-class background and how he relates to the "common folk".

One of the things that wowed me about Alex Ross' Marvels series (#2?) was the prominence of Angel on the cover showing how amazing that would truly be to see a grown man with functioning proportional wings. I appreciated that insight.

Not to slight the Angel character, but I find it funny when re-reading the early original X-Men issues that Ice Man is referred to as the weakest member (I assume because he was the youngest) when Angel was an otherwise a seemingly normal human except for wings that gave him the ability of flight.
Heck, all Ice Man had to do to win a battle against Angel is freeze his wings to ground him, then clobber him with a club formed of ice.

Angel was also just about the only good thing about The Last Stand - the shot of him flying away from the TransAmerica Pyramid and out over the Bay is spot on. The film scene equivalent of a stopped clock?
Also enjoyed Page's Kitty.

I caught a few minutes of LAST STAND last night. Surfed in just in time to see Kitty’s power being used incorrectly against Juggernaut. sigh
