I think my favorite parts are all the things in the windows in the background. I'm sure it all amounted to nothing more than some random line work, but viewed as a part of the whole, it LOOKS like stuff you would see in lighted rooms at night in a city.

••

This was something it took me a while to figure out. I would do my nighttime cityscapes, and all the buildings looked like crossword puzzles. Slowly, I started roughing up the edges, and increasing the vertical distance between the floors. And then it occurred to me to start piling stuff on the window sills, just as one sees in offices.

Love the way you "solved the problem" with your nighttime city
images, JB. As always, I enjoy your take on BATMAN.

Amazing stuff.

10 months on and looking at this still makes me cheer. It's so good, it makes me feel JB has actually been to Gotham.

Such an outstanding commission, while John is on a run of commissions you start to take it for granted that they will just keep popping up… until they don’t. Now I feel it time we re-examine the greatness in the pieces. This one is one of my many many favorite Byrne Batman commissions! I can’t just pick one ; )

John, thanks for all you given us, you are the best!
