"I barely felt a difference physically from 30 to 50. Ever
since then, decline!"

**

Michael, I'll be 57 in less than a month, and yeah, this
past year has truly been the first year of "yeah, I can't
do that anymore". The decline is/has been minor, but it's
definitely there and I grudgingly have to acknowledge it.

I'm 57 as well, and I started hiking and doing basic
neighborhood walks in my late twentiess/early thirties to
prevent my back from going out. I love to hike because it
gets me outside after being inside all week for work, and
my back pain does not return as long as I do it at least
once a week. I am lucky that there are some amazing trails
in the city. And two of my favorite hikes in Malibu and
Topanga Canyon are a relatively short drive to feel like
you aren't in the city at all.

I think if you want exercise to stick, it has to be doing
something you enjoy. Gyms hold no appeal for me, so this
has been a great solution. I guess I was "lucky" to have
back pain at a young age!

Belated happy birthday, John...

Don't know if you remember, but my son shares the day with you...little son of a gun had the nerve to turn 21 the other day...

How many of us are currently 57?
This seems to be the peak age on the JBF bell curve based on comments.

And yes, the things that have started to ache compared to a few years ago
is vert ‘interesting’.
Legs and especially back are showing the effects of age. I’m still lifting and
humping stuff around, but I’m taking a couple of pain killers after doing so.

I'll be 63 soon and i do a fairly physical job although i
only work part time, i have what i suspect is arthritis in
my left big toe joint, my right hip and in my index finger
knuckles on both hands. I start the day with a couple of
paracetamol and ibruprofen to get me going. As all my
hobbies are sedentary my work keeps me fit!
