They were 'just' writing it as a standard superhero book, and (not to read into their approach) unfortunately a kind of second tier one. The stories could have been plugging any random team into it, rather than something that had to do with these specific people and their milieu.

That may have been the chief difference between your Alpha Flight and other contemporary books: the stories were strong because they came directly from the characters, rather than the plot-first approach on most other titles.

At the beginning at least, ALPHA FLIGHT should just appear in the movies as cameo guest stars in X-MEN or whatever as the "Canadian Avengers" and as such they should look exactly like the comic book versions--there would be no time to explain Heather/Guardian or magic Puck or other later variations.

ETERNALS and CAPTAIN MARVEL would have been better off starting with comic-accurate versions of Jack Kirby's characters and Mar-Vell.  At least ANT-MAN established that Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne came first, even if only in flashback.

Whether it's a movie or comic or other series, don't start in the middle.  It usually just shows that you skipped something important, that you didn't understand the material.
