...I hope there is, at the very least, some mental equivalent of eyelids.

It's been a long time since I watched HBO's True Blood.  And even longer since I've watched the first episode(s).  But, as I recall, that's a problem Anna Paquin's Sookie Stackhouse character had: difficulty blocking out everyone else's thoughts.  Working as a waitress in a crowded restaurant and being bombarded with what everyone was thinking.

Star Trek TNG handled this well in the episode Tinman where we meet the Federation’s most powerful telepath, and find out he was patient at a psychiatric hospital when Troi was interning because he could not turn off background thoughts.

It does kind of raise an interesting question I had when first watching the Reeve/Donner movies as a kid (I never read any DC comics until Man of Steel): just how equivalent a humanoid are Kryptonians to their Earth counterparts? Is it down to the molecular level, indistinguishable under a microscope?
On just about every other episode of Star Trek, whatever latest attack attempted on the crew didn't affect a Vulcan in the same way if at all. Maybe that could be the same with telepathy, where the neurological constitution of a Kryptoonian would be just different enough to render any attack ineffective. Or maybe it was established at some point that the only difference is the red sun/yellow sun cell charging capability. Fun for thought :)

And that's why I intentionally brought up Superman's "alien" brain to quantify my question. JB's in a position to say that it doesn't factor in, here.

Besides, now that I think about it, it's been established that Xavier's powers had worked on other Marvel alien races in the past - the Z'nox and the Shi'ar in particular - but it has been said that it was more difficult as a result.

I sneakily suggested that Kryptonians were not, in fact, alien.
