Second anniversary today of my decision to down tools and call an end to fifty years in comics. Haven’t drawn anything since!Except….. A week ago Jim Warden stopped by with some familiar Forum folk, and we ended up going to a local deli for lunch. The weather was hot and muggy, with intermittent thunderstorms. The glass display cases in the front of the restaurant were steamed up, and some customers had already doodled on them. I stepped up and did one of my quickie Batman heads. Even before I finished the lines were “bleeding” down the glass. So I guess I have to say it’s two years since I drew anything with a PENCIL!

This could be the start of a great urban myth/miracle: The Batman Elsewhen story that only appears on humid days at a Deli..hahaI can see throngs of fans staking out the Deli just before a thunderstorm. haha ( at least I think I'm funny haha)

The problem is how does one remove the glass panel without police intervention.
50 years….Incredible.

50 years….Incredible.••• What’s truly incredible is trying to FIND those years. So many thousands of pages drawn.* So much fun. So much frustration. Yet totaling up to half a ****ing CENTURY? A baby born the day I made my first professional sale could easily be a grandfather! The mind boggles!!!!!! ———— * By some estimates more than 20,000.

One of my reasons to opt for retirement was feeling I wasn’t really at the top anymore. Granted, the decline had not been precipitous, and much of it was likely in my mind, but I have looked on sadly as many artists worked to the bitter end, leaving their glory days further and further behind. Did not want that to be me!

And I understand your perspective on this, JB. I'm glad that your circumstances allowed you the opportunity to leave when you felt the time was right, rather than being forced to stay at the drawing board and working to the diminishment--real or perceived--of your legacy.
