My daughter had to help in sending her 10 year old rescue Pug over the Rainbow Bridge last Wednesday . We had a vet who makes house calls come over and assist . It was a great but very sad day. We took him to a park for a great walk and fed him his favourite treats and ice cream .

When we got back home we said our tearful goodbyes and surrounded him with his blanket while he got a relaxing sedative , then the final injection. It was one of my worst days in seeing my daughter in so much grieving pain .

RIP Chico , you will be in our hearts forever .

As Mark Twain is reported to have said, there is no greater proof of the nonexistence of God than the lifespan of a dog.

My deepest condolences.

Losing a pet is gut wrenching. We had to put our cat down in 2020 and we still miss him awfully.

Yes, condolences for the family. I've been through it twice so no more.

We are lucky to have em and they leave a heck of a hole in your soul when they finally have to depart. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Scott Van Pelt's heartfelt tribute to his dog Otis on Sport Center is a touching video that sums the loss up pretty well

It guts me every time.

Ben, my JRT, is 15 (and a half). He's totally deaf, blind in one eye and fading in the other, but can still (just about) chase a ball.

I have a couple of long-distance trips next year.where I have to leave him at home. If Ben is still around when I come back from them, I've already decided that I won't leave him again until we say goodbye for the last time.

Eight dogs have been my best friends, starting when I was twelve. Each had a unique story, some joyful, some sad. “Who buys a dog buys a tragedy.” No truer words were ever spoken.

The special relationship between a kid and their dog is hard to beat. Despite the trauma of eventually (and repeatedly) losing your best pals, I feel sorry for those who don't experience that bond.

But I'll admit that I've lost human family members where the effect hasn't been anywhere near as devastating.

For many of us, losing a dog is akin to losing a family member... my condolences to you and your family.
