David Proval as Richie Aprile in THE SOPRANOS gave me strong Wolverine vibes. He had a short fuse to match his size, too:

Dave’s Wolverine was a rougher version of his LoSH Timberwolf.

And Dave's Timber Wolf hairstyle seems to have been at least partially inspired by Color Kid, who was first drawn by Curt Swan:

Dave was a Legion fan before he became the artist, and was certainly familiar with the Color Kid character.  In this extract from the double-page spread of Superboy #200, he depicts both of them:

That's so cool! I'm glad he got to know how he inspired the best-known/foundational version of the character.

I see Color Kid was created by Edmund Hamilton, who wrote many of the DC stories I read as a kid, as well as my favorite sci-fi novel, CITY AT WORLDS END.

It’s amusing to think back on my father handing me that book when I was around 14. He was trying to wean me off comics, neither of us realizing I’d been reading Hamilton for years!

And speaking of faces, THIS.

An interesting mix of fact and fiction. Some, as you’ll see, are based on things I actually said in interviews. Others—well, no, Gyrich was not Shooter, tho in later years I think Shooter started saying he was.

The name came from some guy Shooter knew in Pittsburgh. The face came mostly from Hank Hogan, a character in DAN DARE.

But I’ll leave you to sort out for yourselves what’s what. :-)

I like CITY AT WORLDS END, but for me Edmond Hamilton is first the author of CAPTAIN FUTURE, whose anime was part of my childhood and teen years, and whose books i read later, at the same time as CITY.

Drift: Although CITY AT WORLD’S END is my favorite science-fiction novel (and close to being my favorite novel overall), the rest of Hamilton’s work has mostly eluded me. Except the comic stories, but when I read those I didn’t know they were his.

When I saw this picture the other day, the first thing I thought was "now he's trying to do Wolverine hair":
