Brian F -- Do any pictures of Kirby's pencils from his run on CAPTAIN AMERICA exist?

*********
Brian, you can find scans of photo copies of Mr. Kirby's pencils for Captain America (mostly his 70s stuff) in many issues of the Jack Kirby Collector. I dug through a few issues and found more than a few in JKC issues 29, 34, 37, 41, 43, 48.

Re: Defenders #45, I think that was a good editorial decision to redraw Red Guardian. I actually like Valkyrie's original head drawing, tho I know hair over one eye was a trademark of hers at the time.

I really enjoyed Kirby's 70's AVENGERS covers, seeing his later style on characters like Yellowjacket, Scarlet Witch (she's more confident/heroic at this point), and especially Wonder Man, who originally appeared in the first post-Kirby issue #9 of AVENGERS, drawn by Don Heck.  (I suppose he only appeared after that in some flashbacks drawn by John Buscema.)  His Wonder Man actually looks like he could take on the whole team!

AVENGERS #152 by Jack Kirby & Dick Ayers
I also enjoy Kirby's Vision!

AVENGERS #154 by Jack Kirby & Al Milgrom
I really enjoy Kirby on all these characters.  Would have loved an IRON MAN stint!

AVENGERS #155 by Jack Kirby & Al Milgrom
I notice Al Milgrom inking a LOT of these 70's covers.  I guess he was Marvel's first choice at this point.

AVENGERS #158 by Jack Kirby & ?
So powerful!  Kirby did a great job on the Vision and Wonder Man, two characters he was not involved with the creation of.  Would not have minded a Kirby WONDER MAN series!  (Or even that VISION/SCARLET WITCH limited series.)

Kirby may have had a hand in the creation of Wonder Man. Since Kirby drew the cover of Avengers #9, there's a good likelihood he was the designer of Wonder Man's costume.  Regarding Iron Man, Don Heck commented that "He [Kirby] designed the costume because he was doing the cover. The covers were always done first."  Heck made it sound like that was the standard working arrangement, and it does seem more likely Stan would want Kirby to design the new character.

Hmm...I see that Kirby does receive co-creator credit for Wonder Man!  I guess the costume doesn't have the usual Don Heck touches (pointy mask!) but it DOES have a Kirby staple--solid opaque goggles!  (Heck also receives co-creator credit, but I know it's Marvel's practice to give the first story artist credit.)

I've gotten most of those '70s Kirby covers, they're some of the best ever (although sometimes not entirely faithfully rendered in ink, probably because of editorial). I also collect '70s Ditko (just getting around to his Shade finally now). There are comics I have solely for the Kirby cover which puts him up there with Kubert, Steranko, Neal Adams, George Perez, John Byrne and Dave Stevens in that regard.

Kirby & Adkins = definite sale.

Here's Kirby's other AVENGERS covers, more nice work!

AVENGERS #148 by Jack Kirby & Mike Esposito
Our only chance to see Kirby's take on the Squadron Supreme?

AVENGERS #151 by Jack Kirby & Dan Adkins
I really like this view of the "Big Three"!

AVENGERS #156 by Jack Kirby & Al Milgrom
Nice see to see Kirby's take on Yellowjacket again (he drew all of Hank Pym's other personas!) and this more mature version of the Scarlet Witch.

AVENGERS #157 by Jack Kirby & ?
Kirby even makes this scene of unconscious people and feet exciting!

Looking at all these 70s covers makes me think Kirby would have drawn the hell out of Sasquatch.

Ah, that’s the notorious “feet sell” cover.

As I recall it was the late Roger Slifer who grumbled about that after we’d had pounded into us that covers must ALWAYS be dynamic and action packed!

I wish he had. As Richard said above, I think he'd have drawn one awesome Sasquatch. His Aurora would've been pretty amazing too.
