Hopefully an easy one for you: if you had been offered the Beast during your original X-men run would you have taken him into the group? And would you have left him furry or changed him into something else? Thanks!

My preference is the non-furry version—and the consensus at the time was that he was rendered redundant in the group by Nightcrawler.

Thank you for the answer. I would have enjoyed seeing the restored version of the Beast during your tenure and think he could have phased into the new X-men nicely. I tended to find the fuzzy Beast just too silly after he became an Avenger for my taste.

I think Hank in JB's HIDDEN YEARS is pitch perfect. Incorporates Lee's original take with JB's enrichment of personality.

As a matter of fact, when I think of XMHY Beast is the first character I see in my head.

I prefer the "hairless" Hank as well.

I'm very content with the furry version, but my preference is/was for the hairless with the big, bare, pink feet. It's those feet that were the defining characteristic the first time I met him.

Made for a neat visual gag in X-Men 135. A bit of levity amidst the dread.

I like both, but have to admit I prefer the furry beast of the 80s. I liked the
humour & especially the design, although clearly, his characterisation is
different to the non-hairy Beast.

I cannot stand any of the redesigns since the Morrison run - another reason
why I cannot stand his run. Scott/Emma, secondary mutations & Cassandra
Nova. What a cluster mess

For me it all depends. When he's with the Cyclops/Wolverine/Storm/ Colossus/Nightcrawler lineup, I like furry Beast. But when he's with the original X-Men, I somehow prefer "hairless" Beast.

I was "introduced" to the furry Beast in the AVENGERS, so that's MY Hank McCoy. Never really got the appeal of his original look.

I'd be interested to know what Chris Claremont was thinking when he scripted that piece of dialogue for Storm in the panel above...though not in a "Boy, what was he thinking, sort of way (just in case my words come across as judgmental).
To my eye, going from the art alone, it does seem like Storm is talking to Peter, and most likely talking about Scott, but ultimately, the chosen words strike my mind's ear as redundant and, when given the all the visual information, extremely unnatural. To me, a no dialogue choice probably would have better served the moment, but as I mentioned earlier, it really does seem as if Storm might be talking. I can see how it might have been difficult to find the right words. Maybe something like, "Peter, I'm really worried about Scott" would have worked, but I'm not sure that's any less redundant than the actual published dialogue.
JB, do you have any thoughts on this? Do you recall if you intended for Storm to be speaking in that panel?

It probably is redundant, but I have had many redundant conversations in
my life.

Expressing thoughts to people, talking about people with others etc. not
while they are say inches away from me mind, but such conversations do
happen.
