Best wishes to Spidey's legendary artist, John Romita.

I know I *should* say Ditko but Romita is my actual favorite Spider-Man artist.

Maybe it was his licensed art on the merchandise I was exposed to as a kid but his will always be the true Spider-Man to me. Ditko is awesome too obviously but I "got" him when I was older, Kirby too.

Same thing happens to me with García López and the DC characters, they will always be my definite version.

Happy Birthday!

Also, hadn't seen that sketch before. Terrific!

To a significant degree for me Sinnott is to the FF as Romita is to Spider-Man.

Happy Birthday to the Jazzy One!

His Spider-Man faces are just … so … perfect.

I'll always love early, quirky Ditko Spidey, but JR Sr. defined a hugely important era for the character. Happy birthday, you genius.

One of the last, if not THE last Atlas-era artists. Hope it stays that way for quite a while!

That first visual of MJ is hard to beat. He had huge shoes to fill but did so admirably. Ditko, Romita Sr and Ross Andru were bloody awesome on ASM.

A master.
Don't forget to add Gil Kane to that list from that era.

Spider-Man has had some fantastic artists over the years. Two John Romitas are part of that conversation! I think Ditko is probably the finest artist-as-storyteller to have worked on the character.

If I was forced to name one single name as the Spider-Man artist, though, I would have to name Romita Sr. A genuine towering great still in our midst. Long may that continue.

What say we keep this thread solely about Romita Sr?
