Absolutely loved that page you posted, Mr. Byrne. That's the Batman I remember.

The entire Bigger Melvin sequence was magnificent. I loved  Batman's line after Bigger was killed by the Joker: "The IDIOT -- I was the only thing between him and a coffin, and he KAYOES me! I didn't think he'd be so STUPID!"

I think I was more influenced by Len Wein.

One Len Wein bit that stood out for me was the BATMAN/HULK crossover - over in the Defenders, Hulk had a habit of referring to members as "Bird-Man" (Nighthawk), "Fish-Man" (Namor), etc.... so Len had Hulk refer to Batman as....."Bat-Man"!

Of course!!!!
