It seems I see this question raised every time there is a shooting in this country. And it seems to me that the answer is obvious. The reason these shootings continue, the reason tens of thousands of Americans die each year, is cowardly state and federal legislators who know there are more gun owners, who vote, than gun violence victims, who mostly can’t.

I think even more than gun owners it's gun lobbyists and money.

Who are gun owners. The ones the legislators most fear.

For what it's worth - not that I was ever a "gun nut" - but your argument about guns' only express purpose being to kill people (versus other things that could be banned that also kill people) set me firmly on your side of the debate.

Properly used, a gun has only one purpose: to kill.Too many owners--responsible and not--are too much in love with having that power at their command. Until the rest of us gather and exercise our power at the ballot box, they'll continue to have their way.

I once saw a preacher from America live and they spoke about things they wanted to do.
I then saw the same preach on video but it was being given to an American audience. Same list bar one important addition.
He wanted to kill something that was capable of killing him. Told me everything I needed to know about those who worship guns while also showing me a basic difference between many Americans and British.

Too many things such as gun ownership and healthcare are handled much better by the rest of the civilized world.
It's really irritating when I dicuss these issues with people I know on the right because they have no answer when I ask if Canada or England etc are "communist" countries as they call universal healthcare or gun control "communist ideals".

Chris Claremont did once give an interview where he compared left and right in the UK and USA. What was right in the UK, the USA would consider left. What was left, the USA would probably put in prison. Not the case now if course.
I have considered creating a Venn diagram of the following Trump supporter Gun advocate Anti Vax Climate change denier Right wing Christian Some form of racist Anti gay
But I realised it would just be one big circle. You know that if someone is one of those things, they are all those things.

Weirdly, the anti-vaccination thing (prior to COVID) was more of a left-wing bit of idiocy, but it's definitely been fully co-opted by MAGA.

Left-Wing anti-vax was more about possible long term side effects and believing vaccines might cause Autism. Right-Wing anti-vax is more or less conspiracy theory/COVID is a scam. Saw some idiot yesterday with a "I Survived The SCAMdemic" bumper sticker on his vehicle.
I've said before that I'm a moderate independent (Democrat leaning since Obama's second term), and I think both sides were off their rocker regarding vaccines. I could understand being wary regarding side effects when COVID vaccines first came out, though.

Considering the normal protocols that were waived to get the vaccines out quickly, along with the amount of false information that was out there concerning vaccine safety I agree; although much of that was laughably stupid.
I think a lot of the right wing opposition had more to do with the vaccine being required, than it did with any perceived dangers, or the belief that the pandemic was a scam. I know there were some who took that position, but I think they were in the minority, even among anti-vaxers.
