Yes - although I'd confidently stated before, having heard it claimed by others, that he WOULDN'T be Charles III, given the unfortunate associations with I and II, but would probably be George VII.

R.I.P Queen Elizabeth II. It had to happen, of course - and after the death of Prince Philip last year, I think a lot of people assumed it would be sooner rather than later - but it's still hit hard. Rumours had begun to circulate this afternoon that she was dead, and that the BBC were waiting for the 6 o'clock news to officially confirm the news, but when they did, it still came as something of a shock.

"I’m actually tearing up. She’s been there my whole life."

Same on both counts. I wasn't expecting to be quite this
affected.

Numb. Totally numb.

I know it’s weird, but that’s how it is.

The news reader on ITV called King Charles “His Majesty the Queen” more times than not during the coverage I watched.  Poor fellow.  I think that will be a common mistake for quite a long time.

Sad to hear this. I just happen to be
reading the Tina Brown book The Palace
Papers. She was made Queen at a young age
and is portrayed as someone who took her
duties as head of state very seriously.

Every time a TV talking head says “the King” there’s an odd dissonance in my ear.

There was, of course, a King of England when I was born, but I was too young for it to register.

She represented England on the world stage for seven decades... what a legacy she left.

RE: King Charles III.... I like the sound of that.

I don't think it's that weird. She was the bedrock of multiple generations. As world leaders have got sillier and sillier, she always remained the adult in the room.

Yeah, it's very sad indeed. Working right up until the end as well. I did like and respect her.

I'm now just trying to wrap my head around the idea that stamps and the back of money here will be changing. It's seemed like one of the very few constants in life.
