Happy birthday to one of the greatest inkers in the biz, Terry Austin, who started inking comics as an assistant to Dick Giordano and Neal Adams, eventually teaming up with our host and launched THE UNCANNY X-MEN into legendary status!

A sample of his pencils & inks...

I think back to my early days of reading SUPERMAN in the mid-70's wondering why the buildings looked better than the people sometimes!  (No diss to the masterful Curt Swan, but he often got saddled by inkers who were not up to snuff!)  Now I think I can pick out exactly which backgrounds Terry Austin inked!

You know you have a good style when people can spot--and enjoy!--your building and object inks!

Love Terry Austin's work...from all of his collaborations with JB (X-men, sooo many amazing covers) through to his work w/Marshall Rogers and the numerous covers he did with George Perez on the Avengers.

One specific issue that stands for me is Marvel Fanfare #4 where he inked Paul Smith.  Loved that!

Curious as to whether Terry ever inked Michael Golden...he must have done.....again that would be an amazing co-lab.

Anyway Happy Birthday Mr Austin!

He inked Golden in the STARLORD SPECIAL EDITION. He did a few pages in
the X-MEN Annual Golden pencilled. I want to say there was a complete
issue of something he inked. Maybe an issue of DOCTOR STRANGE?

One of my favorites he did was the WHAT IF? he did with Frank. There were
a few of the same pencilled pages as DD 181 and it was cool to see the
differences between how he inks a page and how Klaus does.

Happy Birthday Mr. Austin!!!

My All-Time Favorite Inker - The talent multiplier! He takes any art that he inks and multiplies the artwork's sizzle factor to amazing levels regardless of who's the penciler.

Wishing him the best and hope he has a great birthday!!!!
