I agree in principle, but when we see it happening multiple times IN THE SAME STORY, that’s not “realism”, that’s a guy on a straight course to chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

I think that's the right take: there has to be a balance.

I don't have a problem with Batman getting caught off guard once in a blue moon to remind us he is a real, vulnerable person and what he does is a dangerous undertaking.

But several times in the same issue is inarguably too much.

I have an idea Spider-Man might be the most beaten up Marvel character, but unlike Batman you could maybe cite Spider recovery powers for him.

Beaten up is one thing.

Surprised is another.



Spider-Man has a spider sense so should not get jumped.



But he can get beaten up.

I think that’s the difference JB is talking about - Batman should not get
jumped
