JB,I'm re-reading my Captain America comics and I got to #250 and came across a plot line that I don't remember being resolved.
One of the supporting cast, Joshua Cooper, has a letter he has to give to Steve Rogers.
Do you remember what you and Roger Stern were going to do with this story?

We intended to reveal that the Army had not removed Steve Rogers from the active lists when Captain America disappeared, so he was entitled to a LOG of back pay.

Yes, Gruenwald picked up this thread and had him receive (or perhaps decline?) a bunch of back pay. But then the government wanted more oversight, etc., leading to the John Walker/USAgent storyline.
EDIT: I think he uses the money to buy a new van and finance his hotline.

That third panel is delightfully cinematic, the kind of shift from the first two that a fine director would make. Also, often I think I like JB's work best when he's at his most "quiet."

It was a long, hard road, getting comfortable with quiet, “ordinary” scenes. As I have often said, we can teach chimps to draw musclebound characters leaping about in skintight suits, but the day-to-day stuff is where the challenge really lies.

This would've been excellent: your working on "Thor," but only when the character still featured Dr. Don Blake as his alter ego, in the classic Lee-Kirby vein. The Don Blake parts of such a series would've been, dare I say, maybe even more compelling than the bits where Thor battles Storm Giants?!

JB - did you or anyone you know ever take any film making classes to help you with your storytelling -- particularly for these "ordinary" scenes? There are such similarities to me between setting up a shot for a movie and a comic panel -- camera angles etc. The penciler seems very much like a director.

The tale is told that when CITIZEN KANE was released comicbook artists of the time flocked to see it multiple times. It became a kind of course in how to framee shots. Myself, I have not taken any filmmaking courses, tho I do tend to watch most movies with a “third eye” that records such detail.
