Lindsay Graham has introduced a bill that would create a nationwide ban on abortion.... just a month ago he was saying it’s up to the STATES to make that decision.

Can someone explain this GOP strategy so close to the Mid-term elections?? Right-Wing Evangelists?

Seems he's determined to fire up Democratic voters.

For a party that seems to think the economy, inflation and crime/gun issues are going to lead the conversation this election cycle, it seems like an odd, lit stick of dynamite to lob into the halls of Congress at this late hour.

If a political party deserved to be, and would actually greatly benefit from, being wiped down to a handful of seats it's this one! An absolutely off the bloody rails no moral rules basket of deplorables state of disgrace. Briefly saw some glassy-eyed former assistant of Ted Cruz's, she was defending "pro-life" against Al Franken for some reason on one of the many talking head shows, and basically I was dumb struck by how common these religious twits are in so-called politics now, the kind of rubes a con-man like Trump, Graham or Cruz can get in front of to "lead" so easily via shallow pandering like it's just any other transaction. Just the hugging and kissing of flags on stage ought to have put anybody sane off.

Do as Ron Reagan Jr. says and get all the enshrined mystical religious b.s. out of your public and political lives! It's obvious that trusting in God works no better than a coin flip or Ted Cruz in times of any sort of crisis, and we've seen enough leaders "chosen by God" and posing with Bibles to last another couple generations. See a religious kook, or even a holier than anybody poser, in someone you are thinking of hiring that will represent you = don't!

There are indications that repealing Roe v. Wade is mobilizing a majority of Americans against the Republican Party. While some GOP candidates are scrubbing their support for birthed births off their campaign website, the national party is pushing the national abortion ban they said they wouldn't pursue. They're basically pointing at every uterus in America the way Babe Ruth used to call home runs. Because the abuse is the point.

Hopefully given some of the horror stories already caused to some in some states, like the underage rape victim having to travel a long way to another state, or a woman bleeding for ten days in Texas because there was a detectable heartbeat and all medical professionals feared being jailed and barred from practice, these mid-terms will defy the norm of favoring the Republican party.

So, is this saying there cannot be a nationally mandated right to choose, but
there can be a mandated national ban on the right to choose?

Is that the correct interpretation here?

Does the Republican Party really think the rest of the country is as thick as
their supporters?

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer:  Hell, yes.

And now... governors Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott treating human beings like shit on the bottom of their shoes—shipping them out of their states like dead cattle. LINK

What these clowns are doing is against federal law.  They are trafficking undocumented immigrants across state lines... that's a crime.

Not to mention stupid and cruel.

I weep for professed Christians who treat human beings as
animals/commodities/pieces of shit.

Abbott has been bussing them out for months. The development here is that DeSantis is joining in.. and using planes to send them not to big cities, but to Martha's Vineyard which presumably he thinks will cause more ructions than sending them to NYC or Chicago.

As for the legality, I'm fairly certain they think this falls between the cracks. I think the gambit is this:

  • Someone claiming asylum is supposed to be screened for credible/reasonable fear of persecution in their homeland
  • The pandemic suspended people claiming for asylum
  • There was consequently a big backlog of people wanting to claim asylum
  • When the US lifted the suspension, there was a huge influx of asylum seekers
  • The US  Dept of Homeland Security therefore does not have the capacity to cope with the number of people who are claiming asylum
  • In such circumstances, they are released directly at the border into the US and provided with a notice to appear at a later date in court to go through their asylum process
I'm guessing it's these people who are being bussed and flown out of Arizona, Texas and Florida. Of course that is only my supposition and could easily be wrong.

Didn't Southern state governors pull that same bussing shit back in the 60s as part of their pushback on Civil Rights? I know history has been repeating itself but this is some next-level recycling.

It still amazes me how something that has gone on for centuries, people crossing a border as refugees from real violence or for work reasons, has successfully been labelled a crisis (for twenty or more years so far). I'm not saying there aren't any genuine grievances, but the citizens are also being used and abused and 'their' economy not remotely 'protected'. In fact there were big downturns in a few places that became extremely hostile to migrant workers. Even in Alaska, there are towns and businesses dependent on seasonal workers from Mexico and south! This should/could have been standardized and not remotely any sort of crisis ages ago but I think at least one party sees it in their interest to keep it bubbling and dividing! Us vs. all of "them", they're all to blame, and an endless do somethingism. Spanish speaking property owning citizens have sometimes been treated like crap in Spanish named states for ages too.

Yes; lied to and bussed blacks north stunt. Racists then and racists today, still the same even if the scapegoats/targets shift slightly.
