I agree, Philippe!I spent a little longer than usual on that page, making sure the inks were just right. When one little thing is off, it seems to throw everything else off. The first panel was a bit more tedious just because of the technical curves and lines. I wonder if JB does all of those curves freehand - but they always look too perfect for that!

I’m pretty sure that he uses French curves and oval templates. A good art supply store will have these in the drafting area. If you are using them for inking it may be necessary to elevate the templates off the surface with tape or some other method. I’ve been doing it digitally and my program does not have a way to create curves that make any sense for inking. I’ve used the auto shapes but it’s a bit complicated and decidedly not intuitive. I did this with multiple layers and selected resizing to get the circles and line weights just so. I know, I should be using a vector program for such details. # 26, page 8 (detail).

Craig, JB has perspective lines on that panel. Leverage them for your inks. Those two small thrust exhaust ports are not sending the right visual signal. Also, you might want to vary your line weights and check perspective for the hanger tech.

I did something quick to show what I mean about the exhaust. I exaggerated a bit on the perspective to illustrate what I mean.

Thanks Eric. I agree that the line weights are an important piece to keep in mind. One of the funny bits about perspective lines is that the programs ignore the size change that occurs within a line as it gets closer to the vanishing point. It occurs to me that this is a problem of inking mostly as penciling can make use of the value change. There is also a stylistic component to the construction that has to do with the artist’s intent that is hard to get right.  |

After looking over my last page and receiving some good feedback, I decided to re-ink panel #2. I needed to do a better job on Sasquatch's fur and also do a better job separating foreground/background.

Covers are not permitted. Carlos, you should remove this or the admins will remove it. Cover mock ups are not allowed on this site because of the possible interpretation and implications for printing.

Huh? Since when? There are plenty in the photoshop fan fiction thread and I have one myself in the 'what's in your sketchbook' thread.
It's not wise to put Marvel's name on it and certainly no one should be reproducing JB's signature, but I don't see a digital mock up as having any more implications for printing than anything else. If someone chooses to print JB's Elsewhen pages under a text cover and flog it like a villain on ebay, it's just a wrong as doing it with a mock up cover and I don't think the existence of a mockup is going to make anyone more inclined to commit such a transgression.
