Like many of you in the other thread, I am looking forward to the Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez Superman Collection, but just before Easter, I picked up the Gil Kane Collection and was blown away. No surprise though, since I own all of the issues, but the book is beautiful, and it features my favorite Superman ever, and that is saying something considering all the awesome artists who have worked on the Man of Steel over the last 50 years, including our beloved host. Thoughts?

Which story is your favorite ever?
And does this collection include the covers he did for issues he didn't do the interior art on?

My favorite ever? Hard to say. I love the self- contained Special #1 and DC Comics Presents Annual #3, but I guess my favorite is the Brainiac story which began in the Action Comics Anniversary issue, one of the very first comics I bought when I started collecting when I was 12.
As for the covers, they are not all included. The first one I recall seeing and buying, aside from the Anniversary issue mentioned above, was DC Comics Presents Annual #2 featuring the introduction of Superwoman. His artwork totally blew me away, and he has been my all-time favorite ever since.

These books are really nice. The only issue I have is the gloss paper although I've seen glossier. Currently I'm working my way through the Batman Jim Aparo Vol.1 book. Worth every penny.

BTW, I'm sure we'll get a volume or two of JB's on this at some point.
THAT'S A HINT DC!

I can't say that Gil Kane was my favorite Superman artist--probably still Wayne Boring--or my favorite Spider-man artist--unquestionably, Steve Ditko--but I really liked his work on both books, and he brought a lot of excitement to both of them. I could be wrong, but offhand, I think that other than Ross Andru, he was the only artist to draw both series on a regular basis.
My favorite story in the collection is "If Superman Didn't Exist . . ."
A story about Gil Kane. Many years ago, I was involved with a few other people in putting on the first Boston comic convention, and successfully pushed for Kane as a guest. About the time Kane was working on Superman, someone else was putting on a Boston show, and I stopped by Kane's table and chatted for a few minutes. Conscious that a line was forming behind me, I said goodbye after a few minutes and started on my way. "Why don't you take this along with you?" Kane asked, and handed me, to my total surprise, a full figure sketch of Superman that he had been working on. Needless to say, I still have it today.

I'm rereading these stories in these days, in their original edition. Still good entertainment with dynamic, spectacular art. I see how Kane homaged various Superman artists (Garcia Lopez, Adams, Andru) recreating some of their panels...and adding his touch.
The Brainiac story remains my favorite!

No fan of Superman at all but I do have every Gil Kane's illustrated issues and many of the covers for the ones he didn't work on the interior.
I'll probably buy this book anyway… Something compulsive about his art, I guess.
