Bonjour guys ! Just saw this on Facebook. Looks good to me, with the recognizable Byrne touch. Anybody know the drawing which inspired this illo ? Never saw this scene before.

I had this when I was young. There was a set of them. Here is another.

Wow. Imagine if they made a CGI-animated X-MEN movie to look like that?!?!?

Thanks Neil! I see there's much Byrne stuff I'm unaware of, although I've been a fan for, gasp, 32 years. I 'd love to see the pencils for these paintings, I wonder if the chief himself still has copies of them.

Looking at that second painting just reminds me how much I prefer the X-men in matching uniforms, rather than individual costumes. (Even though the original team was well before my time and so always feel a tad bit foreign to me.)

You're welcome Christophe. I think there are four posters, but I can't remember the other two. The one I posted is called XAVIER SCHOOL FOR GIFTED YOUNGSTERS REVISITED, but I can't recall the names of the rest. Now I wish I had had them framed.

Those are the other two Michael. I also had this portfolio from around the same time.

John Byrne obviously did only the first two above and not the other pair. Fastner and Larson, the colorists, are good but not Byrne-good imo.
I remember seeing these advertised in some magazine when I was a kid and it felt like it was a million years before I actually found them in person. (I bought them in a comicbook shop in Vancouver back in 1988 ! That was the only time I've seen them in the wild)
