Hey, John.
I was hoping you could post the 10 Unreasonable Demands that you presented when taking over Superman in 1986. I did not see it in the FAQ and I was curious about what they were exactly.
Thanks!

Don't recall what they were specifically. None of them were truly
"unreasonable" -- it was stuff life "No Superboy", "Superman restored to Sole
Survivor" status -- and all but one ended up in the series.
The one that didn't make it, as most of you already know, was an idea I
played with of having the pregnant Lara be the one who comes to Earth. I
considered this as a way to have someone who could encounter and be
killed by kryptonite, to prove its potential danger to Superman. It was
Jenette Kahn who suggested the alternative I ended up using.

Too bad that idea wasn't used, JB.
But I take it that you would have had her die quite soon after arrival. Ship crashes, she's found by the Kents, gives birth, and then dies. Or would it be a case of her feeling unwell for a while, then dying?
Thanks.

...and then DC editorial comes up with a story where Lara gets a Black Lantern ring.
I think JB's Superman run was brilliant, and they're some of my most valued issues, but Jenette was right.
Especially in hindsight. Kal-El as the ONLY survivor of Krypton is the only way to go.

Sending Lara to Earth, pregnant with Kal-El, would have had a dramatic
effect on my version of Superman, of course. The cold, antiseptic Krypton I
came up with would not have been, for a start, which would have most likely
meant Krypton would have much more closely resembled its traditional
form.

Well, since there was no Krypton-loathing Superman in my run as written, I
guess there would not have been in the other version, either.

JB, I love the way that you introduced us to the cold, antiseptic Krypton in MOS. You came in on such an angle that was so original-feeling for Krypton, and had a fresh view. It feels very SCI-FI. The Kryptonian clothing was a great design too. (and adapted to great effect in the animated series- credit goes to you)
Every aspect of MOS is just amazing, and thoughtfully ORIGINAL. (As far as updating an established story/history can be 'original').
Hard for me to accept that you were around my CURRENT age when you came up with those amazing ideas. I've been into comics since before I could actually read them, and would be hard pressed to come up with such cool ideas myself. You have a number of real talents and ...I'm a dumb-ass.
Anyway, belated thanks for such great work on Superman.

Thanks, Lars. I knew the biggest problem I'd have redesigning Krypton
was coming up with a look for the clothes and architecture that wouldn't
look dated ten, twenty, or fifty years later. So, after some unsucessful
attempts to adapt Shuster's "Buck Rogers" approach -- very cutting edge
in 1934, but kept around far too long -- I realized the answer lay in finding
a look that was alien rather than "futuristic". I ended up taking my
cue from the playing cards in Tennielle's original illustrations for "Alice in
Wonderland".

JB: Excuse me if this is widely know, but I don't recall. I know you dealt with the pocket universe Zod, but was there a General Zod on your Krypton?
