Ryan Maxwell (or anyone scanner-worthy):

Do you have the HULK story JB did for Marvel Fanfare?

Somewhere I have the Hulk backup from that issue scanned. I can put it up here, just give me a day. (backup story from that Hulk #1, not the Fanfare, though I do have it as well).

Hi Folks,

I believe Wayne Osborne owned the Hulk # 1 back-up story awhile back, but don't think he still has it.  If anyone wants to see some pretty swell "modern" JB artwork featuring the Hulk, you can check out the pages shown HERE.  They are from Spider-Man: Chapter One; I think the Hulk pages are awesome and the rest of the issue ain't bad either... it's a shame to still hear some folks lament that "JB's older stuff was better" as the Byrne-inked issues of Chapter One were great IMHO.

Jim

Thanks Jim!

I miss the "real" Hulk!

Gregg --

I like your theory -- I hope JB doesn't mind wistful speculation on our part based on the evidence presented in these stories and his interview.

One thing, though, if Banner were to become the Hulk again, I think it would have had to have been for a noble reason -- similar to how he became the Hulk in the first place. If he thought becoming a Hulk he could control himself would be the only way to stop the out-of-control, mindless Hulk.

If he did it for any other reason, it would make it hard to empathize with him.

Of course, he became the Hulk again out of jealousy (the first Doc Samson story), which I always found out of character.

Damn!  That Hulk back-up story looked so cool from the original artwork, that I had to dig the actual comic out of it's longbox.  I can't remember when was the last time I read that.  Thanks for the reminder.

I notice that the colorist didn't heed JB's instruction to add Fury's five o'clock shadow, though.

Was that JB's last appearance in a comic book story?

I can't remember any after that....
