I don't own the name "John", or the initials "JB", but, as I have mentioned many, many times before, when a quote is attributed to "John" or "JB" on this board, readers are most likely to assume it's me. And since some of the things said by other Johns and JBs are far, far from any sentiment I might express. . .   well!

Once again, please, please, please, please, please, if you attribute a quote or respond to a quote, make sure you make it clear WHICH "John" or "JB" you're quoting.

Thanks!

Out of curiosity, why does this board not make it easier to use the Quote function?  That would help remove any doubt about who someone was replying to.

Simple: too many people abused it.

Despite countless pleas (much like this one), we still got a seemingly unending stream of "quotes" of entire posts followed by single word or single sentence responses. Usually giving no clue as to which part of the post was being responded to!

So we got rid of quoting as a one-click function.

That was horrible.  I remember people with regularity quoting three or four paragraphs of someone's post and then replying with "Right on!" or "I totally agree!" or the worst "Yup."  I like the fact that in order to reply to someone here, you actually have to think about the part of a person's post you want to reply to instead of a simple one-click function that makes it far too easy to quote an entire post without discretion.
