Flipping through my longboxes stuffed with a lengthy run of Uncanny X-Men, I stumbled upon several issues where I look at a character's costume and wonder:  What were they thinking.
So, in trying to keep things fun and light 'round these parts, I offer you to take part in helping find the silliest, ugliest fashion disasters that our favorite mutant family has brought us!

Here is a few to get the ball rolling:

Looks like the fashion police caught up to Magneto. At least hehad his evening gloves on.

Wolverine taking the whole 'feral' thing a bit too far

And because we just really needed to see Harry Leland of the Hellfire Club in a costume.

Oh, God, I had completely forgotten about noseless Wolverine.

Anyway, the best example of this are all the Kitty Pryde costumes after the training X-Men uniform and her Shadowcat costume.

Are mutants the only group eligible?  Or are the fashion disasters themselves mutants?

Those Hellfire Club "costumes" were hideous!

It's not as if it's going to be a shortage of them.

I nominate Liefeld's X-Force. All of them. Especially Cable. The guy had more costumes changes than a regular Madonna concert, and all of them sucked.

What's wrong with Wolverine's right leg in that pic?

There are two things that remain seemingly eternal: Most comicbook artists are male, and virtually none of them have ever cracked the cover of an issue of VOGUE. (Or, based on that Wolverine drawing, an anatomy book!)

I like that first design. I think JRjr made it look pretty decent.

What it comes down to, I think, is a little buzzer that goes off in the back of our heads, prompting us to ask not so much whether a design is "good", as whether it's appropriate. I don't think JRjr is capable of a truly bad costume design -- but if we consider the character of Magneto, does this seem like something he would wear? Even the "repentant good guy" Magneto? (The same could be said of the Hellfire Club costumes --- a redundancy, since they were already wearing costumes.)
