Your logic is quite alien to me Thomas

The "mainstream news" is not one monolithic organization which shares a single opinion about every topic currently in the headlines.  The notion that the "mainstream media" has any agenda other than attracting ratings and page views is just a paranoid fantasy of those who can't handle any sort of criticism or negative reporting of politicians or views they support.

Still confused by the term "mainstream news". Isn't Foxnews the number one news program in America, thereby making it mainstream?

There's also being insufficiently critical of politicians or views they don't support, allowing for the possibility that said politicians aren't willfully corrupt and/or evil, etc.

Like Trump, Fox News only functions as an entity, when they have a foil
that they can point to and identify as the enemy and bringer of bad
things. Take that away, and there just isn’t any substance.

I learned a lot at the Christian school I went to for two years, i learned things they didn't expect me to learn, even from the Christian ghetto empire operations like Robertson's media empire (law school, news channel, children's cartoons) bookstores and radio stations... it's a world within a world. Pat Robertson endorsed and gave a lot of air time to Mr. Trump in 2016 too (I still keep tabs loosely as somehow they do allow those 700 Club infomercials to air on what used to be called basic cable channels in Canada where I am). You may or may not have noticed Trumpo using the term reciprocity sometimes... to me that is a direct fingerprint of Robertson/CBN (a word they have used for a long time to bilk fearful seniors of cold hard green offerings of financial support).

Well here's a gift for you Mr. Woods, and it is a real one. Here is a story about something that is genuine and really happening in your country to people that will confirm your fears about out of control courts and government and people who say they are selfless socialists caring for the poor and weak. It is sheer ugliness and criminal conduct to rank with the ages and a pretty good example of why I am wary of the extreme left because here is 'the state' helping to destroy families and that people on the right are wise to fear!

I'm hoping that by sharing this story it might help you consider counting this organization as a trustworthy source of information. National Public radio is paid for like PBS by listeners/viewers and donations and endowments and they are the best I think we have these days. Nothing to do with CNN which is not my cup of tea often either. The page should load fast and have no ads. I watch a Seattle Fox station sometimes and I think they do a great job on their news and genuinely care about their community, and I think this Nevada NPR station whose site this link is to, is also doing a great job and cares.

https://knpr.org/knpr/2017-11/guardianship-system-nevada-und er-scrutiny

Here is something that appears at the bottom of the page "Our journalism speaks for itself, and we answer only to you. That’s thanks to the 11,000 members of Nevada Public Radio. Each of them made a small commitment and became members of Nevada Public Radio." With things on facebook or youtube you could be seeing something purporting to be from somebody who the actual creator is nothing like with motives you can't begin to know. I like things straight forward and I find NPR/PBS is straight forward. Boring sometimes but who needs more entertainment anyway? I also like The New Yorker and The Atlantic magazines, plus The Christian Century and Biblical Archeology review.

That's really on you though, right?  Your mode of discovery and/or research tends to be memes.  You've posted as much, many times, in this very thread.  This time it was just a "random" meme, as if you accidentally plucked it out of the ether.  Seriously.

So what are you saying?  That you're a poor researcher?  Or that you'll buy any half-cocked meme as long as it jibes with your worldview?

Do you picture this forum like we are talking at a political round table,
guests on cnn and can’t say anything without a lot of research? Or is it
a fact that we are a bunch of nerds talking about comics, movies and
armchairing politics. I picture it more like a bunch of people who have
some things in common sitting around a bar table and having a few
drinks. So me saying the only information I have seen in some random
meme, is not that big a deal.

It's a big deal because you are not the only person in the world turning off their brain and becoming a mindless robot controlled by "random Facebook memes". There are lots of people allowing themselves to be misled and controlled to the detriment of the others. Asking "what's the big deal with my willfull ignorance" wouldn't be an issue if we were discussing comic books, but politics has the potential change the world for the better or worse. And without critical thought and scrutiny you are driving toward a horrible outcome.

I think memes are awesome in this medium. They are
lightning in a bottle holding a lot of info in a short
time.

They take off if they are accurate, and die pretty quick
if they are not. So don't worry about people turning
their minds off, it works as a tool to draw your
attention to something you may overlook.

I don’t recall memes being used in this Forum. Thanks for ruining it, Thomas.

Are you joking or just willfully ignorant?

A problem with some of these memes is that people share them without bothering to see if they're true or not. So people get offended, share the anguish and these things just keep going. Yes, some wither on the vine, but accuracy of some of the hardier memes is hardly guaranteed.

If you're going to take the time to get offended by something and share it with the rest of the class, you can take a few minutes to look for some context and see how reality aligns with the spin. Given the number of times you've bemoaned the "MSM Borg," I wouldn't think that would be something we'd need to argue about with you. Or is the right wing media a higher class of Borg that should be given the benefit of doubt in all things?
